Position Purpose

This role entails first and foremost understanding the vagaries of the physical HRC steel book/Ore book, determining and executing the monetizing/maximizing of omega (destination arbs), gamma (product arbs) earnings and beta (flat price trading). This position has accountability over short term directional value creation (Pnl responsibility for short term trading) within both physical HRC or Ore and futures, from driving insight with the cash book traders, regional managers. 

Principal Accountabilities

Accountability Category #1: Metals Book management---60%

 With limited oversight and guidance from Metals Trading Lead , manages and monitors medium trading positions and exposures (e.g. micro or macro oriented), including the short term trading book. Develops weekly game plans and contributes actively to trading game plan (GP).

 Monitors/controls team’s medium risk positions by analyzing and communicating SnD forecasts and market movements. 

 Trades and hedges within limits set by the Steel / Ore Book Manager, on SSEC/SHFE. 

• Collaborates with risk and analytics on a daily-weekly basis to ensure outputs meet trading needs. Have courage/confidence to call a market, amidst volatility.

 Have a thorough understanding and ability to monitor and execute the short term trading strategies and book for a specific commodity/market/customer 

 Actively participates on a team of traders during weekly market call and also separately to understand /align on market so as to optimize the cash book and maximize earnings. 

 Partners with customer team to determine structured pricing, risk management solutions for customers 

 Short-medium range risk management

 Futures, options, spreads/ basis trading, positioning

 Participates in weekly global risk management calls/meetings within the Business.

• Spot / monetize product / regional spreads in addition to cash book trading.

• understanding of execution risks in the physical book. 

• Manages team’s daily P&L calculations, both realized and unrealized.

• Works with the accounting and finance departments to determine monthly contract, allocation/rebates are in order.

Accountability Category #2: Interacting with industry players, hedge funds, mills, end user customers---20%

 Works with internal and external funds/brokers, mills/customers, agents on a daily basis to manage and monitor medium risk trading positions 

 Develops and maintains relationships with these internal and external stakeholders.

 Acts as “subject matter expert” (develop insight) on non fundamental analysis (NFA) within China

• Ensure critical insights from the team/market are captured accurately and timely to drive the trading engine. 

Accountability Category #3 ---20%

• Any other duties as identified, including but not limited to managing the execution of derivative orders - orders are executed verbally via clearing broker channels or via screen trading systems. Attention to detail and the accuracy of managing the flow of orders is essential. Able to act calmly and efficiently in times of pressure is also essential. The ability to maintain such accuracy will require a fluency in both Mandarin and English, especially in numeracy. 

• Compiling position reports at EOD

Education 

• University Degree 

Experience

• At least 4 yrs trading experience trading physical and/or derviatives. Experience in Ferrous industry would be an advantage. 

• A risk or analytical background with market analysis and trading concepts, is an advantage. 

• Having a strong depth of knowledge of the key drivers of China steel markets is essential

• Very strong risk taking appetite and being able to spot trading / arbitrage opportunities

Skills 

• Fluency in Mandarin / English

• Technical analysis, indepth knowledge of futures and options. 

• Ability to achieve aggressive earnings growth in a challenging unsophisticated market

• Excellent administrative skills and ability to challenge/innovate/change current systems/processes

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Career Development

This is an important role, allowing candidate to display book management skills. Additionally there are Pnl responsibilities which can lead to a wider risk taking role. There will be limited automony for day trading, which in time could open many avenues to progress within the team, or transfer those skills to the iron ore team.

Position Purpose

The Treasury Trader will be part of Cargill China’s Treasury team. The Treasury team provides funding and foreign exchange support for China, Treasury advisory services to the businesses, cash management activities, as well as having a fully functioning middle and back office.

This position will be part of the Treasury Markets Group within Treasury, and will initially be expected to provide support for all foreign exchange activities in China. The Treasury Trader is expected to understand and be up to date with China’s complex regulatory environment. The Treasury Markets Group also runs some risk-taking trades and the Treasury Trader will be involved in the decision making process for putting on those trades.

The Treasury Markets Group also manages a book of more than $1 billion in funding to support Cargill’s growth in China. The Treasury Trader will subsequently need to understand the funding of Cargill in China and liquidity risk management. 

The Treasury Trader will maintain frequent contact with Cargill’s banking partners in China to support our Treasury Trades, as well as with the businesses on their day to day activities.

Principal Accountabilities

(1) 60%: Support Cargill’s foreign exchange and funding activities in China. 

• Liaise with Businesses on the daily foreign exchange requirements.

• Work with both local and foreign banks to hedge the foreign exchange risks for Cargill.

• Keep up to date on the changes in regulations and the operational environment.

• Ensure that businesses in China are properly funded for their daily activities.

• Work with businesses to ensure sufficient funding for their projects and M&A activities.

• Work with our Singapore office to ensure a seamless flow for foreign exchange activities, funding as well as information reporting.

(2) 25%: Support TMG risk taking trades

• Understand the trades that we are currently running in our book.

• Actively look for opportunities to generate PNL within the Treasury framework.

• Generate and send out the daily Traders PNL.

(3) 15%: Support our Treasury Services Group and Treasury projects

• Support our Treasury Operations and Accounting team in any necessary matters.

• Support the deployment of the new Treasury system in China. This includes working on the system architecture, process mapping, UAT etc.

Qualifications 

Essential Functions/Requirements

• Ability to multitask and to handle various competing requests that happen at the same.

• Ability to perform under work and time pressures.

• Ability to articulate and guide businesses in managing their foreign exchange exposures.

• Motivated, curious, and interested in exploring new opportunities.

• Having a good macroeconomic understanding is a plus

• Have good communication skills. Ability to read, write and speak English is essential.

Education, Experience,Skills---Required

Education: 

• University degree, preferably in Finance, Economics, or Mathematics.

Experience:

• Minimum 3 years working experience.

• Having foreign exchange / funding experience is an advantage.

• Experience in using Wall Street Suite is an added advantage.

Skills:

• Strong team player.

• Ability to multitask.

• Ability to perform under pressure.

• Good analytical and problem solving skills.

• Willingness and ability to engage business in handling their day to day requirements.

• Have a curiosity to keep looking for new opportunities / process improvements.

• Good command of both written and spoken English and Chinese language.
